Flew yesterday morning and started learning short and soft field takeoffs and landings. My instructor demonstrated them and I couldn't believe how smoothly he flies. When I did them I was all over the place. Just more stuff to practice on. I tried them using MS Flight Sim X but these are something that you really need feedback from the yoke with so I don't think it was effective. More on MS FS X later.

Do you use the yoke from CH Products? I had major problems using my joystick, so I switched to CH P's yoke and it was a much better feel. See my blog for more details.

I have the CH yoke and Saitek rudder pedals in fact (saw that you do too now). They work reasonably well but for feeling ground effect the real thing was definitely better. I'm relatively happy with them in MS FSX but I'd like the IR tracking as well. Panning using the hat button on the yoke is a pain at times.

ok, I can't help myself but I've been looking at TrackIR that ex gravel cruncher mentioned and I'm going to have to try it.
